Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Sefako Makgatho store has an opportunity available for a dispensary support student to join the team. The main objective of this is to employ students who are capable of taking and completing the basic pharmacist assistant course for students. This course will equip students to understand the underlying principles of all major areas related to the pharmaceutical and dispensing environment and promotes the notion of quality in on-the-job learning. Staff will be employed in a fixed-term position as dispensary support until such time as they are registered with the SAPC as basic learning assistants. Only once qualified as a basic pharmacist assistant will permanent employment be offered.

Essential:
Grade 12 – Certificate of Matrix or Higher with Mathematics (HG), Life Sciences or Physical Sciences and obtained at least a 50% average

Dispensary support staff must have completed a passing aptitude test to apply for registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Basic Learning Assistant.
Registered Pharmacist Assistant in the Pharmacist Basic Learning Assistant category; may perform the following services or acts under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy:
The sale of drugs on Schedule 1 or controlled substances.
Assist with the composition, handling or preparation of a non-sterile medication or programmed substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
Assist in the unpacking and marketing of stock and cleaning of dispensaries and OTC shelves approved by the responsible pharmacist.
Any other function assigned by the Head of the Dispensary.
Learn to accurately interpret scripts and to act professionally and responsibly and within legal requirements according to the Pharmaceutical Council of South Africa.
Ensure accurate medication selection, packaging, labeling, and monitoring, and be aware of typical dosages and important drug interactions.
Make sure all medications are verified by a pharmacist and signed by a pharmacist.
Assist in stock control (manage the cleaning and organization of the packaging of the shelves and the expiration dates of the drugs) of the drugs from List 1 to List 5 or substances included in the list.
Follow up with patients regarding the script follow-up report as requested by the dispensary manager and follow-up appointments.
Assist with call center scripts and patient care phone calls.
Provide information to people in order to promote health.
Help with the authorization of the chronic medication scheme, against HIV and AIDS and oncology.
Report low / out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
Receive dispensary stock in accordance with the SOP established by the company.
