GENERAL WORK POOL: DEPOSITS OF REGION A – G, ROAD SIGNS AND SIGNS, RESURFACING DEPOSIT, FLEET
PLANT DEPOSIT, HIGHWAY DEPOSIT, ASPHALT AND LABORATORY (REF: 07/2021/36).
SALARY: R110 430.31 ANNUAL BASIC SALARY EXCLUDING BENEFITS.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES SELECTION REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA
 Direct traffic around hazards or road works, starting temporarily
road signs, traffic cones and barricades on construction sites in line with operational standards
procedures.
 Build and / or repair concrete pavements that form a border between the pavement and
the roadway.
 Work on the construction and / or repair of the pavement outlets (KI) of rainwater.
 Help the crane operator (s) to pull concrete slabs when needed. Make sure that
KIs are cleaned and unlocked when needed.
 Free the ground channel / open the channel. Clean the appropriate tools.
 Complete all other activities on the inspection sheet.
 Respond to citizens’ concerns and complaints in the workplace.
 Perform manual work as directed by standard operating procedures including but
not limited to the following: digging ditches; clean and install culverts; remove debris from
carriageway and docks; repair holes and / or cracked and broken pavement for
patch up.
 Install rainwater pipes and work on the construction and / or repair of road manholes where
necessary. Construction and / or repair of speed bumps.
 Repair of potholes and sidewalks. Working on asphalted and / or gravel surfaces etc.
using relevant tools and machinery. Resurfacing.
 Patch in depth and patches on the skin. Road signs. Crack sealing. Cut trees, shrubs,
and other plants; mowing, cutting, stacking and shredding vegetation; trolling vegetation and more
debris; load and apply sand and gravel to the roads.
 Loading and moving road materials; dig up earth and other materials, dig ditches, tear up
asphalt, install culvert pipes, back fill trenches, cut street level, brush and clean
debris and widening roads; spreading paving materials, smooth and level gravel roads,
remove slides and boundary roads; scattering of rock fragments on the road surface; road sealing.
 Grade 10 or NQF equivalent.
 Six (6) months of road management experience
building maintenance and / or construction machinery
or equipment.
