MMEG offers a scholarship program to students from South Africa, the USA, Canada and Trinity Washington University. The award covers ALL fields of study, towards a certificate, undergraduate, graduate or post-doctorate, at specific universities.
The objective of the MMEG grant is to help women in developing countries, so that they can continue their studies and thus improve the lives of women and children in these countries. MMEG is one of the few organizations that provides financial assistance, specifically to women.
MORE ABOUT THE MMEG BURSARY PROGRAM – COVERAGE VALUE AND SELECTION
MMEG provides a grant of up to US $ 7,000 (around R99,000), however grants may vary based on availability of funds and exchange rates. Grant funds will be awarded annually in January and February.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a telephone interview within 2-3 months after the application deadline. The successful candidate will be announced in early April on the MMEG website. The results will be announced in mid-December 2021.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MMEG BURSARY
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying (note that if you do not meet all the requirements, your application will not be considered):
You must be a South African citizen (Citizens of the following countries can also apply: MMEG Country Eligibility List)
You must have a study permit for South Africa, if applying from one of the eligible countries linked above
You must identify yourself as a woman
You must be 25 years or older at the time of the application deadline.
You must be enrolled to study for a Certificate, undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or post-doctoral studies
You must be enrolled in one of the following accredited universities in South Africa: University of Cape Town, University of Stellenbosch, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria or University of the Free State
Must be enrolled full or part time (with at least 2 courses per semester or quarter)
You must aim to be fully enrolled for a full academic period after receiving the scholarship.
You must be enrolled for at least 1 more academic semester (from January to July 2022)
Must NOT be related to a spouse or staff member of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group, or Inter-American Development Bank
You must be born before September 15, 1996
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE MMEG BURSARY

Please submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (submission of these documents is mandatory; if anything is missing, your application may be disqualified):
Make sure these documents are readily available when you apply, preferably in pdf, jpeg or png format.
Photo ID (if you are a South African citizen)
Passport with photo (if you study outside your country of origin)
Study permit page or visa page with current passport (applicable to foreign candidates)
Second page of passport with photo (if you have dual citizenship)
Proof of official enrollment at a university (on institute letterhead)
Latest academic reports and transcripts (on institute letterhead)
Brief details about your personal history, brief details about your studies, as well as how your experiences and future plans are connected to your commitment to helping women and children in developing countries.
Short paragraph explaining an estimate of your financial situation for the academic year and how you plan to finance your financial needs
Brief summary of your thesis, including objective, methodology, and findings, and how it relates to your career goals (if applicable)
2 letters of reference:
1 letter of reference from a faculty member of your university and 1 from someone who can attest to your character (CANNOT be a family member)
At least 1 of the referees must have known you for 2 semesters / equivalent, or more
Reference letters should include the referees’ email addresses so that they can be contacted and provided an Embark Online email link where they can submit their recommendations.
If the candidate is successful, Embark will contact him. (If your referee has NOT received an email from Embark, ask them to verify that the pop-up blocker is disabled – check your spam folder and / or email MMEG to request an individual link.)
