Description
The apprenticeship program will include informal training as well as on-the-job development rotations in multidisciplinary teams. This apprenticeship will be a 3-year in-service training experience. This will be towards a qualification known as Tractor Mechanic. The first 6 months are a trial period. This period is necessary for the company and the employee to ensure that it is a long-term relationship. Either party can withdraw in this period without consequence. Thereafter, the apprentice will be bound by a contract with AFGRI and will begin his actual training. This training includes: The apprentice will go to a Practical Training Institute in the different necessary phases (if necessary). At the same time, the apprentice will enroll for N required subjects at a university and study as a distance student (if necessary and if available). He is expected to attend classes on Saturdays as well. Distance learning could continue as needed while in the workplace. The apprentice will receive product training at John Deere’s training facilities in Boksburg and other vendors, as well as in-house training hosted by our own specialists.
The training mentioned above does not involve training costs for the trainee if you pass, but any unsuccessful training must be done again at your own costs. All apprentices are subject to this 3-year contract with AFGRI. If the apprentice withdraws within the apprenticeship period or “payback period” there will be costs involved. The costs will be calculated according to the time and phase of withdrawal. The apprentice is expected to work backward the time it took to qualify. The contract cannot be extended for more than 4 years. If the apprentice has not been qualified in 4 years, the contract expires.
The duties of the apprentice will include:
Trained to be a tractor mechanic / technician
Repair and maintenance of related equipment
Responsible for stock control
Customer service
General work in the workplace

Requirements
The minimum requirement for this application is:
Valid driver’s license
Communication skills
Administrative skills
Computer literacy
Subjects N2:
Math
Engineering science
Diesel trade theory
and any of the following
Industrial electronics
Engineering / Technical Drawing
Motor Trade Theory
In case the applicant does not have the N2 qualification, the Matric Certificate will also be taken into consideration if the applicant has subjects such as:
Mathematics (not literacy) (at least 40% / symbol E)
Technical mathematics (not literacy) (at least 40% / symbol E)
Physical Sciences (at least 40% / symbol E)
Technical Sciences (at least 40% / E-Symbol)
Engineering Design and Graphics (at least 40% / E-Symbol)
Applicants not in possession of the above qualifications may take N2 requirement courses through additional Education and Training sponsored by AFGRI as part of the program.
